Tips on successfully day trading stocks
- Hoping a stock will turn around one tick at a time. Many unsuccessful day traders get stuck to a stock and continue to sit in front of the screen watching their stock tick lower and lower, hoping for it to reverse course. This is one of the worst things to do if you want to be a successful day trader. If you notice a stock is not performing the way you expect it to perform, act fast and get out of the losing position. Your goal is to keep your losses at a minimum and move on to a more successful stock trade.
- To be a successful day trader, a successful day trader must review their day trades on a daily basis. It’s important to review the successful day trades along with the unsuccessful day trades. Analyze the decisions you made during the trading day and come up with a strategy to improve on it the next day. Keep good records on techniques you used that were successful and you will be on your way to becoming a successful day trader.
- Typically when day trading, it is a good idea to keep an eye on your trade and utilize what we call the 10-minute day trading rule. If you trade does not perform as you had expected in the first 10 minutes, it’s a good idea to start liquidating some of shares. This tactic will minimize your losses and allow for you to have a better entry point.
- It is very important to have several news media available so that you are at the fore front of the news and can act quicky upon and negative news affecting the stocks you hold. It’s also very important to know what news are expected to come out for a stock. Mark your calendar the time an earnings report is due out and be prepared for it when you day trade.
